About Blair Goins

Headshot: Blair GoinsBlair Goins studied at Eastman School of Music. Two years later, he was commissioned by the University of Vermont to compose a work for full orchestra in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Since moving to Washington, DC in 1988, he has performed with the Monumental Brass Quintet, the Takoma Park Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony of the Potomac, the Modern Brass Trio, Washington Musica Viva, the Silver Spring Brass, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. For four years, beginning in 1990, he was the tuba instructor and a music theory teacher at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Currently, Goins is the tuba player and one of the resident composers in the Great Noise Ensemble.
